This is also called as Action Research or Operations Research. A development problem is picked up in the intervention area. The problem identification is done in consultation with the client. The solutions to the problem are arrived at by involving the client & beneficiaries and also service providers together. The main areas of interventions were reduction of maternal mortality, neonatal mortality, infant mortality, malnutrition, health economics etc. We carry out operations research in almost all sectors of operations including rural development, public health, education, women & child development. The main approach in operations research is the joint problem solving approach.

IIDM is Engaged in studying and analyzing the communication and media environment, the IIDM Team, aims at gaining a better understanding of media and communication tools. This process takes the form of independent research, technological diffusion and ICT use-studies, publications, policy consultation events and creating platforms for experts and stakeholder interaction.The fact that IIDM interventions have often played a key role in the evolution of communication ,strategies and policies is a testimony to its expertise and concerns.

Learning is a continuous process, if given in a conduciveenvironment. By conductive environment we mean by the environment where the learner is in a receiving mode. This conducive environment is created by the providers rather than receivers alone.

We are one among those rare species in development sector training who commit on the result oriented trainings and meeting the result oriented objective. Simply delivering the contents before the audience does not lead to build capacity of the target audience. It requires participatory learning approaches in which IIDM is well equipped. Corporate Social Responsibility :

IIDM has been engaged in design & auditing of CSR intervention for corporate sector since 2008. It has taken its first assignment for British Petroleum & the second major CSR interventions for Hindustan Uniliver with O&M. Thereafter IIDM works for following major activities.

Primary Sectors we serve:
The Institute aims to provide consulting, training, research and interventions in the following areas in development sector.
1. Behavioral change: BCC is a strategy, which refers to the systematic attempts to modify/influence behavior or practices and environmental factors related to that behavior which indirectly or directly promotes safe and desired practices. The strategy involves intra personal, interpersonal, mass communication and organizational communication strategies. Preparation of IEC activities,material preparation and designing the program cycle Prepare the BCC program cycle.

2. Communication, IEC&Creativity :Studies in Communication Need Assessment, media planning & design, media reach & impact evaluation of development communication, Behavioral Change Communication are carried out. Our Institute goes beyond creating awareness and works towards designing appropriate communication to achieve change in behavior with the help of techniques of OD Interventions and participatory communication.

3. HRD & OD: The Institute offers consultancy and training in OD Interventions, Recruitment & Selection, Manpower Assessment & Manpower Planning, Performance Appraisal, Total Quality Management (TQM) and Business Process Re engineering.

4. Media & Documentations: IIDM specialized in development communication, its design & development and production of IEC Materials. It has also documented the process of communication interventions along with the assessment of impact on the beneficiaries. IIDM carries out formative research to design the communication strategy & plan of action to bring a change in community behavior. Media Planning & scheduling are also the part of this cell.

5. Health & Nutrition: We Undertake research & evaluation studies for nutrition status & related health interventions. At the stage of research design the client is involved. We also impart training on MIS, BCC & Project Management in Health & Nutrition Sector. Health Systems Research & Health Management studies & interventions are carried out by IIDM. Concurrent Evaluation of NRHM Programme as zonal agencies for 9 states in northeast was conducted & facilitated by us. Operations research interventions for Reproductive & Child Health, Family Planning, Population Stabilization & Health Communication are also carried out by IIDM.

6. Hygiene and Sanitation: The sanitation in urban slums & the villages has been a challenge to development professionals. We were able to mobilize the community & develop village motivators for hygiene & sanitation status in 198 villages of MP. The interventions by involving school going children to improve sanitation in the project district was appreciated by UNICEF. We also participated in TSC in district Bhopal in 45 villages. We believe until we empower the community & mobilize them, it will not be possible to improve the health in the rural areas. We carry out design & development of community mobilization interventions for maintaining health & hygienic conditions in the rural sector.

7. HIV /AIDS: Development of Communication Strategies& Capacity building for Targeted Interventions among stakeholders is our priority area. We are establishing State Training Resource Centre with the support of NACO & MPSACS in MP. We mainly carry out interventions for peer counseling & communication design.

8. Women & Child Development& Nutrition: The research & evaluation studies were carried out in ICDS interventions focusing on health & nutrition of children, adolescent girls & women. The impact evaluation, base line, mid term & Endline evaluations of ICDS, training process & training institutions of MoWCD are carried out by us.

9. Women Empowerment &Gender: The declining sex ratio & the poor participation of women in economic activities has been our focus area. We design the development strategies to tackle these issues by mobilizing the community through development communication interventions. Assertiveness building interventions among women were our focus areas in the past. We also carry out Economic Empowerment preceded by Psychological empowerment interventions among the women. The gender budgeting & reducing gender differentials in the community are our thrust areas in this field.

10. CSR:(Corporate Social responsibilities): IIDM Uses a systems-based approach in CSR. We provide users with methods to assess, implement and link their brand to CSR, manage risks and develop a CSR strategy. We help the organizations to build a unique approach to selection & prioritization, planning, assessment, implementation and process documentation useful in replicating CSR interventions to a large population.

11. Agriculture & Rural Development:IIDM observed during its agriculture & rural development interventions that rural population does not directly accept the advices & sermons for their own development until we use participatory communication. IIDM also realized the need of decentralized planning, community monitoring & social audit as the key issues for which capacity building is required al local level. In the present decade we would strengthen this area by participating in the CB&T exercises which is our core competency. In the past we carried out large scale interventions on this area.

12. Education& Employment : We carried out many research studies in Education field to assess the causes of dropout, poor achievement & transition from primary to middle level & then to higher level. In addition to this we also carry out skill up-gradation among unemployed youths & women in particular for their economic empowerment. Our initial phase was devoted to economic empowerment of deprived classes in MP. We even carry out the evaluation of employment generation & development of entrepreneurial skills.

13. Urban Development: Urban development has been till now a neglected area. The Government interventions were limited to provide civic amunities. But carried SWOT analysis & came to conclusion that there is a need to mobiles community for development issues leading to active participation in urban governance. IIDM now is dedicated for development communication design, its implementation & community mobilization. IIDM also developed systems & empowered the change facilitators for urban governance. Public Private Participation is another area where IIDM contributes to the department.

14. Panchayats ,Local SelfGovernance &Planning : After 73rd& 74th Amendment of Indian Constitution the Capacity building of the elected representatives of local self governance has been our focus area. We carry out capacity building interventions & also research studies to analyse the causes affecting the strengthening of local self governance.

15. PDS & Livelihood: The malnutrition among the women & children has caught the attention of development professionals & managers. The NAREGA implementation has improved the economic conditions. But availability of food at the door steps of the poor is a cause of concern for all the development professional. Therefore IIDM is now carrying out research & evaluation to improve the functioning of PDS system. It also equipped itself to conduct operations research for improving the PDS in states. In the field of livelihood generation, though IIDM worked in skill development field for economic empowerment. But now focuses on capacity building of local community in decentralized planning, community monitoring & social audit area. Managerial Capacity building. The HRD, OD & OB are the areas where our services are now in demand.

16. Tribal, Minorities &Disabilities: The empowerment of deprived class has been the cause of concern. We work in the area of IEC, Community mobilization, Research, Monitoring & Evaluation of development programmes for this sector. We have been shortlisted by GOI & state governments to carry out these consultancies.

17. Community Empowerment & Social Justice: IIDM has also developed its expertise for carrying out exploratory studies in areas of Social Justice & Empowerment. We analyse the causes of social issues & the impact of government interventions for community empowerment & rehabilitation of physically chalenged persons.

18. Others :IIDM offers consultancy for project formulation, implementation, monitoring & evaluation of development projects. We do provide internship to international students of development management courses such as masters in public affairs & policy issues, environment management, public health, Health administration on charge basis for few seats depending on the status of current intervention & research projects.
